  • Installing our ‘Touched’ quilt, comprised of thousands of quilt square submissions
  • Installing Medicine Wheel shrines
  • Setting up the gift shop

Day of the Vigil

Tuesday, November 30th, 10:00 p.m. to Wednesday, December 1st, 11:59 p.m.

On the day of the event itself, World AIDS Day, we’ll need support from our community to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

  • During our processional from City Hall (1 City Hall Square) to the installation at the Boston Center for the Arts, we’ll need folks to help lead this impactful, monumental march across the city.
  • Fire watchers – At the BCA, during the event, we need at least one person to be on guard against fire throughout the whole vigil. From 12:00 a.m. on December 1st to 12:00 a.m. the next day, we’re looking for volunteers to be on watch in 4-hour shifts during the daytime, and 2-hour shifts in the middle of the night.
  • Gift shop help – These volunteers will help during the same time span/shifts as the fire watchers, but assisting with running the gift shop instead.

The Strike

Thursday, December 2nd, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Boston Center for the Arts

This is the hardest part of the event when the troops are exhausted and we need to clean everything up. The more hands we have, the better!

  • We need volunteers to help de-install everything from the Cyclorama space – the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the ‘Touched’ quilt, the Medicine Wheel shrines, and the gift shop – as well as general clean up.

Thank you in advance for all of your help in making this event happen from start to finish. We can’t wait to experience this year’s Day Without Art, ‘Touched – In Times of Pandemic’ this year with you.
